Mastering is the last step in your music production project and happens after recording and mixing are finished. It consists of several actions:
- listening closely to the clients’ wishes, and understanding their tastes in sound and music
- polishing the sound by modifying its spectrum and dynamics to make it hear-pleasing on as many systems as possible
- editing the tracks, and modifying their order, if need be
- delivering the premaster in a professional format.
When mastering is done, you are ready to have your CD burned (for low quantities), or pressed, to present your music to record labels, radios, and DJs, and promote your career.
